How to Maintain Your Smart TV & Keep It in a Great Condition
- Dec 30,2024
Whether you own a smart TV or planning to buy one in the upcoming days then you should follow some steps to make sure that it works well and lasts for many years. Whether it’s an LCD TV, an LED TV, or an OLED TV, following the guidelines mentioned here will extend the TV’s lifespan and offer you an excellent audio-visual experience.
Peel off the plastic cover
Once the TV installation is done, peel off the plastic cover from the screen. One should also check and remove any stickers or advertising material that might be attached to the screen or frame of the television. Letting those covers and stickers cause more harm than good. These plastic films create hurdles in heat dissipation, which might affect the longevity of the display panel in the long run.
Use Clean, Stabilised, Power Supply
Suppose you have experienced power fluctuations or leakage in your home. In that case, it is always safer to use a power stabilizer with the TV rather than plugging it directly into the power socket. An extra layer of protection is always considered safer as the standard brand warranty doesn’t cover damage due to high or low voltages. If you are in the process of buying a new TV, look out for TVs that have some built-in protection against power fluctuations.
Choose Good Quality Cables
Since it’s a smart TV, there is a good chance that it is connected to many devices such as a multi-channel audio system, a set-top box, or a media player. Whether it’s an HDMI cable, analog AV cable, or optical audio cable, make sure that the cables are of high quality.
To make sure that cables are of good quality - check for these features:
-
The cable shouldn’t be stiff. It should be smooth and blend easily
-
Its connectors should be made of metal
-
In the case of HDMI cables, make sure to buy at least HDMI 1.2 (HDMI 2.0 is recommended for 4K TVs, and HDMI 2.1 is recommended for 8K TVs), and HDCP 2.2 certifications
-
Cables must have clear markings of certifications
Keep Optimum Brightness & Contrast levels
Setting the brightness and contrast levels at optimum levels is a good thing. Check your TV’s manual and the company’s website to find out the recommended levels. Setting the brightness to the maximum level can lead to pixel burning. Some TVs feature a built-in tool to set the brightness, contrast, and color calibration.
Don’t Retain Still Images For A Long Time
If you are watching the same channel for hours on a stretch or having the same still image continuously on an OLED TV, that can lead to pixel burning and image retention. Some LCD TVs might also experience the same issue. To be on the safe side, it is better to change the channel after an hour or so and turn off the TV when no one is using it.
Clean The TV From Time to Time
You should keep the TV clean. We recommend cleaning the TV at least once every month. While cleaning the TV make sure that
-
You use a clean microfibre cloth so that the screen doesn’t get scratched by dust and dirt
-
Don’t use any strong chemicals for cleaning purposes
-
Don’t spray water or liquid directly on the TV’s display
-
First, use a dam cloth to clean the TV’s body and then clean using a dry microfibre cloth
Protect The Remote Controller Using A Cover
If you have kids in your home, it is better to protect the TV’s remote control using a cover. Use silicon covers for the remote controllers. This makes sure that even if the controller is dropped, it does not get damaged.
If possible consider buying an extended warranty plan for your TV. The extended warranty plan for the smart TVs extends the manufacturer’s warranty and covers breakdowns and malfunctions.
